How I Plan My Content

When I first started blogging, I would publish posts at any given time, or just whenever I felt like it. We all write for different reasons, but because of the huge shift in my content and what I choose to write about now, I’ve found it quite helpful to plan ahead and create a schedule that allows me to stay on top of what gets published.

As you might know, I cover a wide range of topics, some of which falls into the lifestyle category, and the other sum of it falling into the entertainment category. What works for me when choosing what type of content to put out is to have a running list of ideas which I keep on my phone. Sometimes, inspiration strikes when I’m listening to a podcast, audiobook or YouTube video. Other times, the inspiration just comes naturally from my own mind, or from another interest I already have.

*A note from future me (2020, after quarantine): I want to disclaim that this routine is not solid, nor will it stay in effect forever. Life isn’t static, and with some new developments going on in my professional/academic life, this routine that I’ve kept is expected to change. I’ll let you know more details about this as these developments progress!

Once I get enough ideas, I’ll choose one day within the month just for writing. On this day in particular, I’m writing up ideas for August. Writing up these ideas ahead of time has honestly been a game changer for me because it saves me time and energy on what I should write about or post next. The writing process usually doesn’t take me long (probably an hour or hour and a half at most).

I think the fun part of this process after brainstorming and writing is scheduling out my content. On my desk, I have a month-in-review desktop calendar. In previous years, my calendar would be underutilized as I would only have birthdays, appointments and other events written on there. Nowadays, my calendar is finally being used for more than just that which makes me feel good.

My upload days are usually on Sunday, so for all of the Sundays within the calendar month, I’ll pick and choose which posts I want to have published. Some months may be more heavy on lifestyle content, while others may have a focus on entertainment and/or reviews for different things I enjoy using.

So in my mind at least, I feel like this whole concept of content batching is pretty straightforward, but I do hope sharing this process with you was insightful or helpful if you’re a blogger or writer like me. As always, I appreciate those who read my posts from start to finish. Have a great day and happy writing!
